EIFF2008: Just Another Love Story
This Danish noir thriller begins with a man telling a little white lie to check up on a girl whom he helps following a car crash. Unfortunately, before he knows what's happening, the lie has escalated out of control and he finds himself dragged further into the girl's life while alienating his friends, family and pretty much everyone else he meets. It's classic noir territory as a man falls for the wrong woman and finds his life unravelling as a result of his own character flaws.
Acting is top notch, it's beautifully shot and the twists just keep coming - just as you think things can't get any worse for the poor guy, along comes another viewed-between-the-fingers moment of embarrasment or terror.
Another highlight of the festival which you should definitely seek out. I can only hope that this one will get the cinema release it deserves.
