EIFF2008: Sleep Dealer
Mexican sci-fi isn't exactly a huge industry these days, but that hasn't stopped them trying. SLEEP DEALER offers a terrific concept in showing us a future where virtual reality networks allow Mexicans to work in the USA without having to cross the border. Unfortunately the execution isn't quite so terrific.
The characters are cardboard cut-outs, the acting second rate and the special effects rather cheap looking in many places. It's a shame but it ends up feeling like a wasted opporunity and resembles something that might have popped up as a made-for-TV effort on the Sci-Fi channel.

Nice try but no cigar, virtual or otherwise.
